Multiple Teams · 2017-18 Charles Drew Boys Basketball Season Preview By Luke Strickland

Drew Titans

2016 Record: 6-16

Head Coach: Kendrick Cleveland

Key Players: Sr. Will Black, So. Demetrius Rives, So. Jahir Wilkinson

Season Outlook: Kendrick Cleveland will take over the Titans this season after serving as an assistant coach last season. Drew finished 6-16 last year, but returns several players from that team.

“We’re really working hard man, just trying to put a good product on the floor at the end of the day,” Cleveland said. “We really want to play team ball. I’m trying to get the guys to understand to move the ball, get up and down the floor and let’s try to have a transition offense. We don’t want the ball to stick. I know in the past from what I’ve heard, if they stop one individual they stop the entire team. We’re trying to get away from that mentality, spread the floor and play as a team.”

Will Black was a First Team All-County selection last season. He averaged 19 points and six rebounds per game. He will be relied on to provide perimeter scoring for the Titans. Cleveland will also count on sophomores Demetrius Rives and Jahir Wilkinson to provide offense.
